<<From 'The Glory'>> From memory, at least, Cole Jagger couldn't think of a time he'd felt any more beaten. The crew of the Glory, gathering around, had nothing but empathy. Becker stood frozen in time, gun still in hand as the electronic warning system of the Horizon echoed around the ship. In five minutes, they were all dead. The vessel was clearly airtight as the large hole in Cole's suit remained silent. The only sound was the mans groans of pain, of pure agony, the high caliber round buried deep in his stomach. Everything had happened so fast, but blood was already flooding out onto the metal grating of the cargo bay floor. Lit dimly by the red auxiliary lights of the Horizon, it was indeed a grim scene. "4 minutes remaining. Please evacuate all personnel. this is not a drill." Time was flying as they all stood there, lost and confused. Finally, a single word broke through the confusion, and the crew snapped back to it. "Please..." Cole could feel the warmth coming from the wound, flooding over his body inside the suit. His hands were tingling now and his vision, even despite the dimness, was starting to blur. Around him he saw the crew - his family - and wondered if he'd live to see the Glory, their home, again. Without a word, removing her helmet to move more freely, Khei was running off into the ship, searching for the bridge. Objections from her crewmates, from the Captain, were brushed aside - she had to try to stop the explosion. Trina instantly got to work, grabbing a syringe of bio-plasma from her bag and trying to at least seal up the wound in Cole's stomach. She could tell he didn't have long. Whether the Glory was stocked and ready to even deal with such a high degree wound was another issues. Ian remained quiet for a few seconds, thinking it all over. He had decisions to make, people to command, lives on the line. But all he could think about was Tobias. The man named Tobias Hawke. He had done this to them. |

Ian watched as everything spun out of control. Khei had gone forward to the Bridge, Cole was shot and it seemed to Ian that Tobias was the man who shot them. He heard the ships warning and saw Trina move into action. "Alright folks, here's where it gets complacated ..." He paused. "Mike, Help Trina get Cole back to the ship. Have Dom pull the Glory away from the Horizon. He was a Captain, or somethin, once. He should know how to do that. I'm not having my ship blowup because of this." He gestured around him at the situatiuon. "I'm goin after Khei. We cant get back to the Glory, the ship is yours. Congrats, your now the XO." With his orders given, he turned and ran after Khei. "Save my ship, XO. Help save Cole. You got less than four minutes. Move out!" Edited by ian dugan, Jan 8 2013, 01:07 PM.

Time slowed to a point that Trina could hear every second. The sound of the old manual, hand wound clock the Shepherd had kept in the clinic on Santo echoed in her ears. Tick, tick, tick, tick... The view of her surroundings narrowed sharply in on Cole, throwing everything else into an out of focus, slow moving blur or deepening shades of darkness. While everything around her seemed to move far more slowly than was possible, and while her hands saw to a momentary fix to the bleeding stomach, Trina locked eyes with the young man. Tick, tick... "Cole!" There was no desperation, at least not in tone. Her tone was demanding, sharp, and approached the line of commanding. Years of training and her brief time knowing Cole allowed her to slip from the shipmate and new friend into the serious, professional demeanor that was needed. "Cole, you look at me and talk! Tell me about your mother! What does she look like?" Tick, tick... Keeping the young man conscious was the priority. Nearby, Ian was issuing orders. She was hearing them, her focus broadening long enough to hear that she was being given help to move Cole. "We need to move him and fast, Mike." Tick, tick... 'Abdominal artery, Iliac arteries or spleen.' The sheer amount of blood narrowed down the list for her, narrowed the time she had, that Cole had, narrowed the gap between life and death. Further damage to anything else closed the gap further, but precious time would have to be spent to move him and free him of the suit, delaying her from discovering the extent of the damage. Tick, tick... |

Khei ran as fast as her legs would carry her, bounding over debris and overturned crates with a fluid grace that didn't seem to fit her character. Gotta stop it.. Gotta disable it or somthin'! Half her mind screamed at her to turn and run the other way. The other half told her that there wouldn't be enough time and Glory would likely be damaged, possibly crippled.. Or worse from the explosion. She was barely aware she had heard the automated countdown. Four minutes. Not enough time.. Need more time! Her mind scrambled to do the math but no matter how she sliced it, if she failed, she'd be dead. The others might be faced with a similar fate. She winced and took her head, not wanting to reflect on such thoughts. She refocused just in time to reach the bridge. She started tapping frantically at the screen looking for a way to deactivate the self destruct system. It's taking too long! Not enough time! Faster! FASTER! She dismissed hacking the system. She didn't have the time to squeeze past the security systems. Let alone find them in the first place. Three Minutes... Last chance, Khei. She jumped over the console and ripped the panel away to reveal the ship's wiring, her hands disappearing into the tangle of wires. She grunted and pulled a box out of the console, a mass of wires entering into and exiting from the box. She pried it open and ripped all the connections out, hoping she did, in fact, find the power supply hub of the ship. |

When the bullet had rang out Mike had ushered others into cover before taking it himself. It was after the sound of their assailant escaping, as he had prepared to return fire that he turned back and saw the damage done. He crouched at Cole's side, not that he had to get closer to see how bad us, or that he could offer help, it just felt like the thing to do. "Go se," escaped under his breath. Then came the self destruct warning. As he was taking a step back to give Trina space he looked to Ian. "We gotta run." As Ian then took the lead on speaking, Becker removed his helmet, Cole's breathing having provided evidence of oxygen levels. Someone needed to go after Khei and Mike was content with Ian pursuing as he helped Cole retreat. It was the promotion that he really took him by surprise, her offered only a wide eyed expression in return. "You make sure I don't have to leave you," he replied sternly to a rushed captain. Forget death, Dugan would have hell to pay from Mike if he wasn't back on board in time, and that was a sentiment he displayed through his features. Business was a pressing issue thought, Trina's words reminded him of that. Becker set one arm under Cole's neck and under his legs and grunted as he lifted the man up. He knew the possibility of worsening the injury through movement, but he couldn't stay here, he'd get his best aid in the med-bay. "Heavy ain't ya? Can't go getting shot if you're gonna be this heavy you hear me. You best live through this so I can give you hell for it." There was no meaning behind it, just words for Cole to hang on to. Becker rushed back through the connecting tunnel and onto Glory, he stopped by a then shared instruction with Dom. "We're staying here for as long as possible before we move to a save distance. We got 3 minutes, just over." That message shared, Becker rushed Cole to med-bay so Trina could take over. Edited by Becker, Jan 10 2013, 06:31 PM.

The Horizon Klaxons wailed overhead as an oddly calm voice announced that the ship had 3 minutes until detonation and advised all crew to evacuate immediately, first in English and then in Chinese. Paying it no head, Ian chased after Khei, moving up quickly through the unfamiliar layout of the ship, arriving on the bridge just in time to see her vault over one of the consoles and pull at the back of it. As he was about to enquire as to how long he had left to live, everything fell into darkness. All interior lighting and heating suddenly ceased, as did the blaring warning messages. Every screen on the bridge flashed once before fading to black as the power stopped flowing. Except for the slow groans of the ships as it drifted through the Black, the pair stood there in silent, darkness. The Glory The airlock sealed with a thud and just in time too, as the adjoining airlock lost power suddenly, the lights dimming before dying altogether as Glory slowly pulled away. Becker and Trina rushed Cole toward the medley, a gruesome trail of blood following them from the Horizon as the man continued to bleed out. He continued to breath, slow and shall breaths. The large hole where his stomach used to be was now a mess of indistinguishable viscera. |

Ian stood and looked over Khei, at the stars seen from the cockpit. Then he looked over at the Glory that dwarfed the ship they were on. He saw her trimble and Ian knew that She would move away. Finally, in a matter of one passing second, he looked at Khei and spoke over his comm unit, his helment still on. "Good Job. I figure we have half an hour afore our own air runs out. We need ta check this ship, salvage what we can, find out what happened to the crew and be out in fifteen minutes. Take the ships data drive from the center console. We can access it back on the Glory. I've got some tools that will let us get past most of the encryptions." His heart still raced, but his breathing had finally slowed as he thought aboput what had almost happened and what actually did. Tobias, youhave some esplainin ta do. he thought. "Lets get a move on then, shall we." He turned from the bridge and began a quick search, finding only the bodies of the dead. |

Khei visibly relaxed, slumping to the floor for a few moments to catch her breath, as the ship lost power. They still had limited time but they had more than three minutes and the odds of an explosion were much less likely.
She nodded and walked back around to the front of the center console and remove the panel. With only a small flashlight, she managed to locate the data drive and remove it. She made a quick final pass around the bridge with her flashlight for anything useful before joining Ian in searching the rest of the ship. Though at one point the sight of so much blood and corpses caused her mind to drag memories from her past to the surface. She had to excuse herself to vomit off in a corner before resuming the search. |

Black. What the hell was that? How the hell? Who? Cole looked at his mother with such love and devotion that it was hard to see the anger in his youthful face. "Mother I love you so much and I hate the thought of leaving you and dad but I have to get out there and spread my wings. I HAVE to fly mom. You cannot understand what this means to me." Esther Jagger struggled with her tears and upcoming panic. Cole I am so worried for you. I just can't see why you can't take the position you've been offered at the seminary or settle down for that wonderful Rachel Peach who just adores you." Sighing a motherly sigh that said mother knows best in a way Cole was all too familiar Esther continued, "I know that this is all your fathers fault. He pushed you into those contraptions." Cole was tired of having this conversation with his mother who was never going to see things his way. He was even more exhausted of having his father blamed where no blame was to be had. "Mom! Dad had nothing to do with my dreams of flying. I've always wanted to fly! All those stories of angels flying down from heaven or great beast and demons getting to soar above the clouds I love those stories. My passion for them is what brought me to this point in my life. Almost every religion has stories of some kind of winged beings. You know where I get my love of religion mom?" His mother didn't want to answer him and just looked at him. "You mother." Esther made as if to speak and Cole raised his hand. "Mother no one is to blame." He lowered his voice to normal and said, "This is my choice mom. I want and will be leaving to live my dream. To fly. I just want you to be proud of me." Esther looked at her beloved son and her face fell defeated, "I am proud of you Cole, and I want to support you in your dream, but I can't protect you out there. What happens when you get hurt? Cole loved his mother so much and it felt good to hear her say she was proud of him. He shared her concern but that's a chance that goes with going ones own way. With much love beaming from his face he said, "AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHUUUNNGG! "Ung.... Trina..... Wha....." Cole was in a torrent of agony and could not feel anything but pain and the moisture pooling in his suit. If he wasn't blanking what seemed, to him, large amounts of time he would be concerned about the wetness surrounding him. He just wanted the anguish to end. George Jagger put his hands on his son's shoulders. "Feel the ship beneath you. She'll tell you what you need to know. Trust your instincts yours are sharper then you give yourself credit for." Cole never took his eyes off the console of his dad's freighter. His hands played across the controls as if he was playing Le carnaval des animaux.* This is what it feels like to touch the face of God. The freighter felt cumbersome to him. Bulky and sluggish and wonderful. "Dad I love this more then I can describe to you." "I know you do son and I can understand just by looking at you." Cole's father sat next to him and prepped to take control back over before they reached Bernadette. Dad, I'll be leaving soon and moms still a mess. I don't want her to worry but she's adamant that this is a phase. Dad," Cole looked at his dad pleading,"this is my dream. I've wanted to fly since I was... Well longer then I ever could remember." George looked at his son with confidence and stated in his serious dad tone, "Cole I have never seen someone more ready to leave the nest. However, you must come to realize your true potential. I love you son but you lack the self confidence that you rightly should have." Looking ever more gravely at his boy he said, "Find your place boy. Find it and make it your own because you are bound for great things. Things that your mother and I can't begin to imagine." As the ship approached atmo Cole looked at his father with concern but said nothing. "Go on son. I'm right here, land her. Cole was stunned, elated, and afraid. He hadn't ever piloted leaving atmo let alone entering it which was much more involved. The ship hit the first shock of reentry and Cole rolled with the changes naturally. Next to him his father smiled so proud that his son was soon going make his way to find himself. After a near perfect landing which George only had to help as any copilot would he asked his son, "Well how did you think she handled on world?" Cole was all smiles happier then he could remember. "Dad that was great!!" Cole couldn't believe that he just accomplished what he had just done. Then as his exuberance subsided he looked at his father and hoped not to upset him. Dad it felt....GNUNG....AHHHHGNH.....

A Reaver's Nightmare

Dom had been at the flank of the group and had no opportunity to prevent what happened to Cole, he backed up onto Glory when Michael brought the wounded kid back to the ship. He had the situation analyzed in his mind what needed to be done that instant, taking in all factors including the ticking time bomb of a ship Ian had rushed into taking the first item off his to do list which was get the son of a bitch who had done this to the lad. Cole needed help, Trina had that covered. Disable the self-destruct, Khei had that, which left two items left on his list. One of them answered the other as Michael spoke the words Dom was already thinking. "Dom, we need to be set to move. We're staying here for as long as possible before we move to a save distance. Horizon's going up in 3 minutes, just over." Dom mentally already had his foot in that direction when he was certain Mike and Trina didn't need any help and with a nod to Mike before sprinting towards the cockpit. At the time it wasn't on his mind but Dom felt no pain in his reconstructed knee from the feat of running which could at that moment decide the fate of this crew. He was by no means a crack pilot but a fluent one at the least. His familiarity with this old bird allowed him expedience in prepping the ship for a fast getaway. With the ship ready and waiting on the signal light to indicate the bay was sealed. He pulled away from the Horizon and got the ship out of the potential blast radius before looping around and holding, the minutes went by until the expected time limit passed and the Horizon remained he breathed a sigh of relief. "How you doin' down there?" He queried, of course speaking to Trina and Mike through the comm. system. He had seen the hole the kid had in him and instantly went back to the war. How many times had he seen it and to other kids same age as their young buck pilot who he'd only a short time before been checking on over that ship wreck in Eavesdown. He worried for him but was also comforted in knowing he was in great hands. Dom had depended on those hands more than once and not just simple stitchwork. He would pull through but Dom had still failed him, not protecting him like he should have. |

((OOC) Great posts all. I love my crew!!) All Ian found were bodies of the dead. No one was left alive to only be dyin. He shook his head. He picked up a few weapons and some food stuffs and moved to the cargo bay where the Glory or her shuttle could meet them. He waited for Khei on a ship of the dead. He would find out what hapened and avenge the crew of this ship. He closed his eyes for a moment and said a silent prayer. |

(OOC: Sorry to step on your post a bit Scoro, but I can't see Mike waiting down there for the allotted time amount.) Michael had given Trina space to do her work, knowing she'd give everything she could. He meanwhile felt his duties lied somewhere between looking after the ship and looking out for Ian and Khei. It was the slight jerk of the ship as it unhooked from the Horizon that sent him sprinting to the bridge. Becker brought himself to the information panels. "We disconnected?" He'd wanted to stay close, give Khei and Dugan a chance, but now they were playing with fire in more ways than one. The systems reported that it was a power shortage that had closed the connection between ships, and Becker looked and something that wouldn't be fixed in two minutes time. He grimaced at the realisation. "We gotta pull her a safe distance away and er," he hated to say it, "wait." In a short amount of time that would realise Ian and Khei's fortune. - - - After a tense period on the bridge, there could be no doubt. He too breathed a sigh of relief. "That's it. They gotta have disabled it." He turned around a sat against a panel for a moment, letting the weight of concern fall from him. As Dom threw the question down to Trina he too tentatively awaited a response. There was other business to attend to though. "We can pick 'em up and-" Becker stopped himself, another thought taking over. "Can we track where Tobias's pod went?" |

The Horizon Khei carefully removed a pair of the ships data drives, flashlight pressed against the console with her forehead whilst her hands skillfully applied tools to its inner workings. A minute or so later she called down the corridor to Ian that it had been done, and packed them away. Ian had made his way down the corridor, stepping over a few bodies without paying them much heed. As he prayed, he could almost swear he heard a faint knocking noise somewhere nearby, but it seemed to suddenly vanish as soon as he he opened his eyes. The few weapons he did manage to scavenge lay at his feet and were half loaded or empty pistols and SMGs. Whatever had happened, they'd gone out shooting, poor souls. The Glory And the ship never exploded. Whatever Khei had done, it had worked. Unfortunately it had worked too well, as the opposing airlock was now without any source of power. As Becker moved across to another screen and consulted a readout of the nearby objects and planets in his continuing search for Tobias, a small flicker at the edge of his vision caught his eye. On a small, partly covered screen displaying their sensor data, a large contact entered into range, moving quickly on It didn't seem to be on any intercept course, just minding it's own business, rushing to wherever it was unknown sensor contacts went. Down in the medbay Trina had managed to stop the bleeding, for now, but Cole was in rough shape, and without some serious surgery he wasn't going to last much longer. They needed to get him planetoid, under a team or surgeons with the latest in stomach rebuilding technology. As far as the crews luck was holding out, even this seemed like a long shot. |

Mike's hand scattered across the systems panel to the comms switch, he was glad to hear from Dugan. The ship may not have blown up, but that didn't stop the mind from concocting grizzly situations. He initiated a response. "Dugan. Glad to hear from you. Dom's on that scan." Becker pointed to the panel as it was brought up, ushering Dom to do so. "As for pick up, the ship locked up after the power went down. So I figure either Khei works her magic or we've gotta knock the door down." Michael drew a long breath before getting onto Dugan's third query. "Cole..." Becker trailed off. Besides not receiving any confirmation yet, he didn't know how to review the condition. "Trina's giving her best and... We both know he's in good hands." |

Dom activated the ship to ship sensors, sending out an invisible pulse from the front of the Glory. Fractions of a second later, it's results began to display on a screen at eye level, overlapping fragmented images quickly appearing onscreen until the image of the Horizon was clear on screen. It showed 4 life signs, but barely. One, the Captain, stood in the ships cargo bay, another which was Khei slowly made her way down through the ship and toward him. The others through didn't make any sense. Both appeared to be within the ships internal structure. Just below the bridge, where the overlaid deck plans showed a mess of wiring and heat sinks, there instead glowed two points of light, one of which was slowly fading. |

With a simple nod he followed through on the commands running a scan, it showed only two extra lifeforms in addition to Ian and Khei. This concerned Dom since it was known the intentions of at least one survivor were counter-intuitive to The Glory's goal. "Captain this is Glory, we have two possible tango's. Three if you piss off your mechanic. Locations don't line up. They're in the internal structure of the ship. Doesn't look to be a technical error on our side, could be interference but either way one of 'em is fadin' fast. Beacon says they're under the bridge. Don't figure Khei there knows what that might mean?" Dom began running through the different devices which might be used to play with a ship's scanner but most of them needed a running ship and the Horizon was not in any shape to be using those sorts of blockades. He had also made a lap around the Horizon and prepared a docking pattern, rudimentary and crude but Dom wasn't a full-time pilot and he wasn't about to put dents in this legend. "You best head to the bay an' prepare for extraction. I'm gonna have to man the controls from here." Dom didn't mean to give orders but realizing it might come off that way he quickly turned to acknowledge the XO's position on the ship. "Sir." There was no hint of sarcasm as it was his soldierly duty to uphold the chain of command a duty he held in the highest degree. |

Ian smiled as he turned. "Roger that, Glory. I'll nicely intercept Khei and see if we have an access below the Bridge Consoles." Ian finished his turn and was in motion as fast as the suit would allow him. Reaching Khei he asked her to follow as politely as he could. "My dear Engineer, would you please accompany me back to the Bridge? We seem to have some crew left. Possibly a smugglers pit under the bridge." Once there, he began checking the room for smuggler's pits, flase spaces in the room. A life was at stake. Time was running out. |

Ian checked the decking below his feet for any signs of recent movement or hidden compartments, taking a few steps forward before bring his heel down sharply on the seals which held them in place. It took a few tries, but as he neared the port side of the ship he was rewarded with a faint hiss from around a section of plating. The edges of the steel rose slightly above the rest of the floor, nearby impossible to spot, unless you were looking directly at it. |

Trina could still hear the ticking clock in her head. The bleeding was stopped, but she wasn't going to be able to do much more for Cole on Glory. He needed more than her help. Stepping away from the table on which the young man lay, she washed her hands and then moved to the comm, keying it up. "Mike, Dom... I've got the bleeding stopped, but..." she glanced back at Cole and kept her eyes there. "He needs more than I can do for him and fast. We have to find somewhere with a surgical team that can handle this." She'd seen a couple of these injuries before. She'd lost them both. Her resources were limited then, as they were now. Releasing the button on the comm, she resolved herself to what was going to be a long flight and a long watch over a young man so new to the Black. Taking a deep breath, she blew it out slowly and let her eyes fall on the monitors she had hooked up to Cole. |
